Fix 126

Shoreditch the epitome of the London hipster. We all love to hate the connotations of a ‘hipster’ but I think there is a slow realisation of the likelihood there is an element of hipster in all of us. From living East for 5years+ I like to think I know Shoreditch well, and knew it before the area became gentrified, and well, let’s be honest here, nicer. East London is now a destination; edgy shops offering new brands, vintage stores selling clothes and bric-a-brac, numerous markets letting fledgling companies try and make it big, restaurant offering more cuisines than I care to count, and finally, a high concentration of some of the best coffee shops in London.

That’s right, the so called ‘hipster’ clearly appreciates a well-crafted cup of coffee, supporting the specialty coffee industry and a lot of the time sourcing beans from local East London roasteries.

Fix coffee’s original coffee shop is in Whitechapel and their second branch in the heart of Shoreditch on the corner of Curtain Road and Rivington Street. The latter is called Fix 126, a light, airy and open space with high ceilings and ply wood communal tables. Two sides are windows so sun light streams in, even though when we visited it was actually pouring with rain. There is seating running around the edges if you prefer to sit alone or a few seats to perch outside if the weather is good.

Brian from Brian’s Coffee Spot and I just popped by for a pre-London Coffee festival coffee and something to eat. They have light bites on offer, pastries, cakes and a few sandwiches. It is all about the coffee here, also there is a good selection of other drinks.

They are supplied by Climpson and Sons and have had their own espresso blend made just for the two Fix cafes. With me having a long black, Brian having a Flat White and us sharing a pour over, we really tried across the board. The V60 pour over bean continually changes, we tried a single origin Ethiopian, which had a great full bodied flavour, our favourite brewing method and bean from the selection.

I also had a smoothie always a treat because it is something I cannot make at home, their ‘green one’ with kale, banana, mango and lemongrass, delicious and not too sweet. An awesome Shoreditch hang out to escape the ever busying Shoreditch High Street, and plenty of space to spread out a bit and work in some natural light.
